Redmond, WA: Global tech major Microsoft is set to implement another significant round of layoffs, marking the second major workforce reduction within a few months. In a statement, the company confirmed that layoff notices are being issued to thousands of employees, although it did not specify the exact number. Microsoft stated that the cuts would affect less than 4% of its global workforce.
As of June 2024, Microsoft employed approximately 228,000 people worldwide. The latest move is estimated to impact around 9,000 employees, based on internal projections. This comes after a previous round of layoffs in May 2025, which saw 6,000 employees lose their jobs as part of a broad restructuring initiative.
The company said the latest decision is part of its ongoing efforts to streamline operations and adapt to evolving business needs. The layoffs span multiple departments and geographies, reflecting a continued trend of cost-cutting and realignment across the tech sector.
