Silchar: A man from Manipur’s Jiribam district has filed a police complaint alleging that his genitals were surgically removed without his consent during a medical procedure at a private hospital in Silchar, Assam. The incident has sparked outrage, prompting a formal investigation by local authorities.
The patient, identified as Atikur Rehman, had been admitted to the hospital for treatment of an infection in his genital area. Following an initial examination, doctors recommended a biopsy. Based on the results, Rehman was informed that a surgery would be necessary to remove the infection. Believing the procedure to be routine, he gave his consent.
However, Rehman alleged that after the surgery, he discovered that his genitals had been completely removed. Upon questioning the hospital staff, he reportedly received inconsistent and unclear responses, prompting him to approach the police.
Silchar police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. Rehman has also made a public appeal to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, seeking justice and demanding accountability for what he described as a life-altering and unauthorized medical action.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement from the hospital involved. The incident has raised serious concerns about informed consent and medical ethics in private healthcare institutions.
