Maharashtra: A 28-year-old woman doctor from Maharashtra’s Satara district died by suicide, leaving behind a shocking note that has sparked widespread public and political uproar. Before ending her life, the doctor wrote a suicide note on her palm, accusing Sub-Inspector Gopal Badne of repeatedly raping her over the past five months and subjecting her to both physical and mental harassment. The tragic incident came to light on Friday, with police confirming that the victim’s note explicitly blamed police harassment for her extreme step.
The case has taken a political twist, as the doctor also mentioned the name of a Member of Parliament in her suicide note. She alleged that she was pressured to issue fake fitness certificates for accused persons in criminal cases, and when she refused, she was sexually assaulted. The note reportedly included the names of the MP and his two personal assistants, claiming they too exerted pressure on her. Following Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s directives, the accused SI Gopal Badne has been immediately suspended, while an investigation into the alleged political links is underway.
According to reports, the doctor hailed from Beed district and was employed at the Phaltan Tehsil Hospital. She was found hanging in a hotel room on Thursday night, with her suicide note discovered soon after. The note also named three officials from the Phaltan Rural Police Department—Badne, Patil, and Ladputre—accusing them of continuous harassment. The doctor urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible. Police have registered a case and initiated a detailed probe into the circumstances surrounding her death.
