Satara (Maharashtra): A woman doctor’s suicide in Satara district has caused a major uproar after it was revealed that she accused a Sub-Inspector (SI) of repeatedly raping and harassing her. The incident came to light on Friday when police found a suicide note written on her palm, in which she alleged that SI Gopal Badne had sexually assaulted her four times over the past five months. The note also stated that she was subjected to severe mental and physical harassment, which drove her to take the extreme step.
Following the revelations, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed immediate action against the accused officer. Senior officials suspended SI Gopal Badne pending investigation. Sources said the deceased doctor had earlier written a complaint letter to the Deputy Superintendent of Police on June 19, naming Badne and two other officers — Patil and Ladputre — from Phaltan Rural Police Station, urging strict action against them for harassment.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation across the state, with opposition parties slamming the government over police misconduct. Women’s organizations and citizens have demanded stringent punishment for the accused and systemic reforms to prevent such abuse of power. Police officials said the case is being investigated from all angles, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
