Maharashtra government has decided to provide basic military training to students starting from Class 1 across the state, aiming to foster patriotism, discipline, and physical fitness from an early age. Education Minister Dada Bhuse stated that the initiative will prepare students to respond effectively during emergencies.

The training sessions will be conducted by retired military personnel, with support from approximately 2.5 lakh retired soldiers, physical education teachers, and the National Cadet Corps (NCC). Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has reportedly endorsed the proposal.

The decision follows the terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley, which resulted in the death of 26 tourists. In retaliation, the Indian government launched Operation Sindoor, targeting and destroying nine terrorist camps in Pakistan. Furthermore, mock drills were conducted across 259 locations nationwide to educate the public on safety protocols during emergencies such as terrorist attacks, fires, earthquakes, and floods.

Minister Bhuse emphasized that the new military training program will enhance the preparedness and resilience of students throughout Maharashtra.
