Significance of the Kumbh Bath
The tradition of taking a holy dip during the Kumbh Mela is rooted in Hindu mythology. According to legends, the gods and demons fought for 12 years over the pot of Amrit (nectar of immortality) that emerged during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean). It is believed that drops of Amrit fell at four places, including Prayagraj, where the Kumbh Mela is held. Devotees believe that bathing at these sites during the festival washes away sins and grants salvation.
Unique Celestial Alignment After 144 Years
This year’s Maha Kumbh Mela is considered particularly significant due to a rare celestial alignment. For the first time in 144 years, the Sun, Moon, and Jupiter will align in an auspicious position during the festival.
Additionally, Ravi Yoga, an auspicious period for performing rituals, will occur on January 13 from 7:15 AM to 10:38 AM. Worshipping Lord Vishnu during this time is believed to bring prosperity and blessings.
The Maha Kumbh Mela has once again captured the attention of millions, with spiritual fervor and traditional rituals marking the event.
