As the Kerala Assembly Elections 2026 approach, political activity has intensified across Kerala, with both ruling and opposition parties stepping up their campaigns. In this context, the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) on Thursday unveiled its election manifesto, outlining a comprehensive roadmap focused on welfare, development, and women’s empowerment. The manifesto was released by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The state is set to go to polls for all 140 Assembly constituencies on April 9.

The LDF manifesto places strong emphasis on social welfare and inclusive growth. Key promises include 50% reservation for women in jobs, an increase in monthly pensions to ₹3,000, and targeted support for five lakh economically weaker families. The document also highlights improved healthcare and support systems for the elderly and bedridden patients, reflecting the government’s focus on strengthening social security mechanisms.

In addition, the ruling alliance has proposed measures to boost employment and skill development. These include ensuring campus placements for students upon completion of their education and launching a ‘Back to Campus’ initiative aimed at equipping unemployed youth with relevant skills. The manifesto also prioritizes women’s participation in the workforce by promising safe transportation, childcare support, and skill training, along with interest-free loans for educated individuals seeking to start businesses.

Meanwhile, the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) has also released its manifesto, offering a range of welfare measures to attract voters. Its key assurances include free bus travel for women, an increase in welfare pensions to ₹3,000, a monthly allowance of ₹1,000 for female college students, and an insurance cover of ₹25 lakh for every family. With both alliances announcing significant welfare-driven agendas, the electoral contest in Kerala is expected to be closely fought.
