In a significant development, Uttar Pradesh police have arrested a woman identified as Alluri Srinivas, also known as a “lady Aghori,” for extorting Rs 10 lakh from a woman under the pretense of performing spiritual rituals. Srinivas, along with his wife Srivarshani, who had married him, was apprehended at the border between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The police are also bringing Srivarshani to Hyderabad for further investigation.
The incident came to light after a complaint was filed by a female producer from Shankar Palli Mandal in Rangareddy district. According to the complainant, she met the lady Aghori at a dinner six months ago at Pragathi Resorts in Peddatur. Following the meeting, Srinivas repeatedly contacted her, claiming that performing a “Shudra Puja” would bring good fortune.
The Aghori woman convinced the producer to pay Rs 5 lakh in advance for the ritual. Afterward, she took the woman to a farmhouse in Ujjain, Uttar Pradesh, where the puja was conducted. During the ritual, Srinivas demanded an additional ₹5 lakh, threatening that without the payment, the puja would fail, resulting in harm to the woman’s family. Fearing the consequences, the woman complied and handed over the additional Rs 5 lakh.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the fraudulent practices of the lady Aghori and her accomplice.
