The collapse of the retaining wall at the Sunkishala project in Nagarjuna Sagar, Nalgonda district, has caused a stir, with visuals of the incident rapidly spreading on social media. The project, awarded to Megha Engineering in 2016, has faced severe criticism due to the engineering failure that led to the accident.
Officials attribute the collapse to delays in the project work, and there are calls for action against the responsible agency for negligence. Former Minister K.T. Rama Rao, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, and MLA Eleti Maheshwar Reddy have all demanded accountability for the incident.
K.T. Rama Rao has called for the contracting firm, indirectly linked to Megha Engineering, to be blacklisted. He criticized the state government and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for their inaction, suggesting that the collapse resulted from rushed and substandard work. “Several engineers have informed me that the wall failed due to hasty construction practices. We will visit the site soon to investigate and provide a detailed account to the public,” KTR stated. He also called for an inquiry by a retired judge into the accident.
KTR further alleged that the incident had been concealed for a week and criticized the lack of monitoring, which he claimed has squandered crores of rupees in public funds.
The collapse of the retaining wall at the Sunkishala project in Nagarjuna Sagar, Nalgonda district, has ignited widespread outrage, with visuals of the incident circulating widely on social media. The project, undertaken by Megha Engineering in 2016, has come under severe scrutiny following the engineering failure.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has responded to the accident, stating that action will be taken against the contracting firm, Megha Engineering Company, after receiving a report on the incident. He emphasized that the entire responsibility for the project rests with the contracting agency.
MLA and BJPLP leader Eleti Maheshwar Reddy has made sensational allegations against Megha Krishna Reddy, asserting that despite changes in government, Reddy’s influence persists. Reddy claimed that Megha Krishna Reddy continues to be awarded contracts despite allegations of substandard work and recent notices issued by the central government to the company. “Is the Sunkishala accident being concealed to protect Megha?” he questioned, adding that Megha’s company should be blacklisted.
Maheshwar Reddy criticized the government for not addressing allegations of corruption in the Kaleswaram project and demanded a CBI inquiry into Megha Engineering’s practices. He accused Megha Krishna Reddy of manipulating government contracts and suggested that Megha is leveraging political connections to secure projects.
Reddy also warned that if immediate action is not taken against Megha Krishna Reddy, he would mobilize protests. He insisted that if the state government issues a letter, he would ensure a CBI inquiry into the Sunkishala accident and other allegations. Reddy announced plans to hold a press conference on Monday to present further evidence of Megha’s corruption and to push for action if the necessary steps are not taken.
