New Delhi: Union Minister Kishan Reddy has proposed a shift in the observance of Children’s Day from November 14 to December 26, aligning it with Veer Bal Divas. Reddy stated that November 14 holds no specific significance for the celebration and suggested adopting December 26 to honor the sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh’s sons, Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh.
The proposal follows a key announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 9, 2022. The Prime Minister declared December 26 as Veer Bal Divas to commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of the Sahibzadas. Discussions are ongoing to finalize the change.
Children’s Day has traditionally been celebrated across India on November 14, marking the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The Congress government of the time designated this date, highlighting Nehru’s affection for children.
However, the Modi government has suggested that November 14 holds no inherent relevance to Children’s Day. Instead, it has proposed observing the occasion as Veer Bal Divas on December 26, honoring the sacrifices of Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, the sons of Guru Gobind Singh.
