The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) faced a significant setback as former IAS officer and Kurnool Assembly candidate Intiyaz Ahmad announced his resignation from the party, stating his decision to step away from politics.
In the last Assembly elections, Intiyaz Ahmad was fielded as the YSRCP candidate for the Kurnool seat, bypassing strong contenders such as sitting MLA Hafeez Khan and SV Mohan Reddy. Party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had chosen Ahmad for his clean image and to capitalize on the significant Muslim voter base in the constituency. However, Ahmad suffered defeat against TDP candidate TG Bharat. Since then, he has distanced himself from active politics, and with his resignation today, uncertainty looms over who will now take charge of the YSRCP’s responsibilities in the Kurnool City constituency.

Meanwhile, Jagan Mohan Reddy is focusing on strengthening the party at the grassroots level. He called for statewide protests today against increased electricity bills, a move that saw considerable success in various districts. Additionally, Jagan is touring his home constituency of Pulivendula, conducting a “Praja Darbar” to interact with people and party leaders. His efforts reflect a strategic focus on consolidating the party’s position in the Rayalaseema region, considered a stronghold for the YSRCP.
