Thiruvananthapuram: A court in Kerala has sentenced 41-year-old Hasan Kutty, alias Kabir, to 22 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and brutally assaulting an 18-month-old girl. The Additional District and Sessions Court also imposed a fine of Rs 72,000. Hasan, a resident near Ayiroor, had a prior criminal record with eight cases, including previous sexual assault offenses.
The crime occurred on February 19, 2024, when a couple from Hyderabad had moved to Thiruvananthapuram with their infant daughter. Hasan allegedly kidnapped the child while she was asleep with her parents and took her to an isolated area near railway tracks behind BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited. After committing the assault, he abandoned the unconscious child in nearby bushes. Police located her later that day, and she was rushed to a hospital where she survived.
Following an extensive investigation, which included reviewing footage from over 100 CCTV cameras, authorities arrested Hasan two weeks later in Kollam district. After nearly four months of proceedings, Justice M.P. Shibu delivered the verdict. The case underscores the judiciary’s firm stance against crimes targeting minors and highlights the importance of swift law enforcement intervention.
