Twin explosions occurred at a mosque near the Navy compound and a nearby state high school in North Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, during midday prayers, local authorities reported. Flames and thick smoke filled the mosque, prompting panicked students and staff to flee. A total of 54 people were seriously injured, most of them students.
Jakarta police have taken a 17-year-old boy into custody in connection with the blasts and reportedly seized a homemade submachine gun with inscriptions. Officials emphasized that the explosions were not acts of terrorism. The suspect was also injured in the incident and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
