An incident occurred at the United Nations the likes of which has never been seen in the organization’s history. Israel expressed fierce outrage over being placed for the first time on a blacklist for sexual violence and violations of children’s rights. At the UN, Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon publicly got into a heated confrontation with senior UN officials. At one point, losing all composure, he shouted aggressively at a female official present there — “Shut up or get out” — an incident that is now causing a sensation.
On Friday in New York, the UN held a special meeting on the topic of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. Speaking at this meeting, Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon launched sharp criticism at UN Special Representative Pramila Patten, accusing her of placing Israel on the blacklist based on false allegations. He stated that targeting Israel had become a habit for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and went further to demand that she immediately resign from her position.

While Danon was making these personal attacks, UN representative Vanessa Frazier, from the children and armed conflict division, intervened. She cautioned that personal attacks against individuals should not be made on the UN platform, and clarified that everything mentioned in the report had been documented with solid evidence. Her remarks triggered an intense reaction from Ambassador Danon.
Seething with rage, Danon shot back: “We are a member state of the United Nations. You are merely a UN employee here. You must know your place. You need to shut up right now — or get out. The report you have prepared is a disgrace.” His outburst instantly created a tense atmosphere inside the UN hall.
The controversy stems from two key recent UN reports in which Israel was placed on the infamous blacklist. The reports expressed serious concern that the Israeli military had committed sexual violence during the Gaza war and had engaged in severe human rights violations against Palestinian children. Hamas, Israel’s adversary, also remains on the same blacklist — and Israel finds it utterly intolerable to be equated with Hamas. Ever since these reports were released, Israel has been simmering with deep resentment, dismissing the findings as entirely biased. Israel has also warned that it may completely sever its official relations with UN Secretary-General Guterres.
