Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has strongly criticised recent remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Iran’s nuclear programme, accusing Washington of violating Iran’s sovereignty and interfering in its national rights. His comments come amid heightened tensions between the two countries over nuclear negotiations and broader regional security issues.
Pezeshkian questioned the authority of the United States to restrict Iran’s nuclear activities, directly challenging Trump’s position. He demanded clarity on the legal or moral basis under which Iran is being asked to refrain from developing or using nuclear technology, asserting that such decisions cannot be dictated by external powers.
Reiterating Iran’s stance, the President stated that uranium enrichment is a fundamental right of the country and cannot be compromised under international pressure. He stressed that Iran will not relinquish its nuclear rights under any circumstances and described Washington’s approach as an infringement on Iran’s sovereignty.
At the same time, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran does not seek to escalate regional tensions and remains committed to ending the ongoing cycle of conflict in West Asia. However, he warned that any discriminatory sanctions or attempts to limit Iran’s nuclear programme would be firmly resisted, and called for equal treatment of all nations under international norms.
Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to surround Iran–US nuclear negotiations, with both sides showing limited progress in narrowing differences. Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has expressed doubt over the effectiveness of upcoming talks, citing deep divisions between the two countries. With a temporary ceasefire period nearing its end, diplomatic developments in the coming days are expected to be crucial for regional stability.
