Tensions in West Asia are intensifying following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In a dramatic statement on Saturday, Iran’s security chief Ali Larijani told state television that Iran would exact revenge for the killing of their leader. He specifically warned U.S. President Donald Trump that he would pay a “heavy price” for the death of Khamenei and for the oppression of over a thousand Iranians, adding that Iran would not rest until justice was served.

Larijani also clarified that Trump had underestimated Iran’s capabilities, drawing parallels to events in Venezuela, and reiterated on social media platform X that retaliation would continue until their objectives were met. In response, Trump dismissed Larijani’s threats, calling Iran’s leaders “weak” and asserting that the U.S. would continue its military operations, insisting that Iran must negotiate without conditions.

Meanwhile, Iran initially apologized for retaliatory strikes on neighboring countries but later clarified that only U.S. military bases in the region were targeted. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that military operations against Iran have already begun and indicated that the coming days could see attacks of unprecedented intensity. The conflict, triggered by Khamenei’s death last Saturday, has now entered its ninth day, further destabilizing the Middle East amid escalating hostilities between the U.S. and Iran.
