Iran Sets 10 Conditions as US Deadline Escalates West Asia Tensions

Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, both Iran and the United States have taken firm positions, showing no signs of backing down. US President Donald Trump has set a deadline for Iran, while Tehran has responded with a set of conditions for any ceasefire or end to hostilities. Rejecting Washington’s proposal for a temporary ceasefire, Iran has insisted that any agreement must include broader commitments aimed at permanently ending the conflict.

Iran has put forward a 10-point proposal, demanding guarantees that the United States and its allies will not carry out future attacks on its territory. It has called for a complete and permanent end to the war, along with the immediate removal of all economic and political sanctions imposed by the US. Additionally, Iran has urged that attacks on its regional allies, including Hezbollah in Lebanon, be halted as part of the agreement.

A key component of Iran’s proposal involves the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route. Tehran has stated that it will allow the resumption of shipping through the strait only after a permanent peace deal is reached. It has also proposed imposing a transit fee of approximately $2 million on every vessel passing through the waterway, with the revenue to be shared with Oman and used for rebuilding war-damaged infrastructure.

Instead of seeking direct war reparations from the United States, Iran has suggested using the revenue generated from these transit fees as a reconstruction fund. The proposal also includes the establishment of a joint security mechanism with Oman to ensure the safe passage of ships through the strait, aiming to restore stability and confidence in global maritime trade routes.

While President Trump has described Iran’s proposal as a “significant step,” he has also stated that it is “not sufficient.” He warned that if a final decision is not reached by 8 PM on April 7, the United States could take severe action. Meanwhile, countries such as Egypt, Pakistan, and Turkey are actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to mediate and de-escalate the situation.
