Despite the loss of its Supreme Leader in joint U.S.-Israeli strikes, Iran continues to carry out aggressive operations targeting the U.S. and its allies. On Wednesday, Iran launched a ballistic missile toward NATO member Turkey. The missile, which crossed Syrian airspace en route to Turkey, was successfully intercepted and destroyed mid-air by NATO’s Air and Missile Defense System, the Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed. No casualties were reported.
Turkey responded by reaffirming its commitment to protecting its territorial integrity and airspace. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that the country reserves the right to respond appropriately to any hostile actions and urged all parties involved to take steps to prevent further escalation.
This incident marks a significant development, as Iran has not previously targeted Turkey directly. Most of Iran’s recent operations have focused on Israel and U.S. military bases in the Gulf. The missile launch toward a NATO member raises the prospect of alliance-level responses, as any attack on a NATO country is considered an attack on all member states under collective defense rules.
