Hyderabad: Indian Railways, serving millions of passengers daily, has strengthened its support for travelers in case of lost luggage, offering assistance free of cost. Passengers who misplace valuables or baggage on trains can immediately lodge complaints via the Rail Madad digital platform. By downloading the Rail Madad app or visiting railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in, travelers can enter their PNR number and provide detailed information about the lost items, including coach and seat details. Once a complaint is registered, railway authorities and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) begin tracing the luggage at subsequent stations.
Passengers who cannot access the app can report lost items directly at station Lost & Found counters or contact the Station Master and RPF. If items are not immediately recovered, a First Information Report (FIR) can be filed to initiate a wider search. Rail Madad functions as a 24×7 grievance redressal platform, handling complaints related to ticketing, safety, cleanliness, train facilities, medical assistance, and staff behavior. Complaints are directed to relevant railway departments, and passengers receive a Reference Number (RRN) to track progress. Feedback is collected after resolution.
Railway authorities follow a standard protocol to locate and recover reported items. Station Masters and RPF personnel are alerted at upcoming stations, and coaches are inspected upon arrival. Found items are secured in the Lost Property Office (LPO) and returned to the passenger after verification. In cases of theft, a criminal case is registered. No fees are charged for recovered items, and the process is conducted free of cost. These measures enhance passenger confidence, ensuring safety and efficient recovery of lost belongings.
