Amid continuing tensions in West Asia, concerns have intensified over the safety of Indian nationals in Iran. In response, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has relocated Indian students in the capital to safer locations and advised them to consider returning to India through neighboring countries after crossing Iran’s borders. The embassy has also issued guidelines urging Indians to remain cautious and stay in contact with officials.

The mission has strongly warned that no one should attempt to cross the border without prior information or coordination with the embassy. It stated that leaving Iran through border points without embassy assistance could lead to immigration-related complications. In some cases, authorities may not be able to provide support even after individuals exit the country.

The embassy therefore urged all Indians currently in Iran to inform officials about their whereabouts and strictly follow the advice issued by the mission. Officials stressed that proper coordination is essential to ensure the safety and smooth movement of Indian nationals during the ongoing crisis.

Meanwhile, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said around 550 Indians have moved from Iran to Armenia, including 284 tourists. Another 90 Indian nationals have travelled to Azerbaijan. As tensions escalate and Iran reportedly closed the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. President Donald Trump recently called on countries to support safe maritime movement in the strategic waterway. However, Jaiswal clarified that there have been no discussions so far between India and the United States on the matter.
