Indian-American Raja Krishnamoorthi has secured a victory in the U.S. election, winning a seat in the House of Representatives. He contested from Illinois’ 8th Congressional District on the Democratic Party’s ticket, defeating his Republican opponent Mark Rick by a margin of over 30,000 votes.
Raja Krishnamoorthi, who first won the seat in 2016, has served as a member of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. He is an alumnus of Harvard University and has held various positions in Illinois, including serving as State Treasurer.
In Illinois, the Democratic Party continues to maintain a strong presence. The Associated Press has reported that Kamala Harris has won the state, with her victory contributing to 14 electoral votes.
Harris received 1,998,342 votes, while Trump received 1,466,112 votes in Illinois. So far, Trump has secured 214 electoral votes, while Harris has won 179. She is fighting hard for victory in the critical swing state of Georgia.
Technical Issues and Voting Delays
Despite facing occasional technical difficulties, ballot printing errors, weather disruptions, and fake threats, the voting process has largely continued without major interruptions. In Pennsylvania, there were reports of Republican poll observers being denied access to some polling centers.
However, officials quickly resolved the issue. Additionally, some voting machines experienced problems, leading to a two-hour extension of the polling time. In Illinois’ Champaign County and Kentucky’s Louisville, technical glitches with e-poll books caused slight delays in the voting process.
