Hyderabad: Authorities have issued a warning against using water from Sunnam Cheruvu in Madhapur, Hyderabad, following alarming test results. As part of an initiative to rejuvenate six major lakes in the city, the Hyderabad Rejuvenation and Development Authority (HyDRA) has prioritized Sunnam Cheruvu and conducted water quality testing in collaboration with the Pollution Control Board.
The test results revealed dangerously high levels of lead and cadmium in the lake water, prompting immediate action. Citing potential health risks, HyDRA has imposed a strict ban on the usage of water from the lake.
Reports indicate that for several years, residents of Madhapur and Borabanda were being supplied water from Sunnam Cheruvu through GHMC pipelines. The ban is expected to lead to a reevaluation of water sources in the affected areas.
