Hyderabad: A young woman doctor from Hyderabad has been arrested by the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGNAB) for allegedly procuring and consuming cocaine worth Rs 70 lakh over the past year. The arrest has uncovered a broader drug supply network allegedly involving a Mumbai-based dealer and a WhatsApp group with links to high-profile individuals.
According to officials, the doctor, who resides in a gated community in Shaikpet, became addicted to narcotics after a visit to Thane, Maharashtra. During the trip, she reportedly met a DJ at a pub who introduced her to drugs. Since then, she had been regularly procuring cocaine with the help of Mumbai-based drug dealer Vansh Thakkar.
Acting on intelligence inputs, TGNAB laid a trap and apprehended the doctor while she was receiving a delivery of 53 grams of cocaine. The supplier, an aide of Thakkar, was also taken into custody during the operation.
Investigations revealed that the accused had been in direct contact with the dealer and had allegedly made multiple purchases over the past year. Authorities estimate the total value of the narcotics purchased to be approximately Rs 70 lakh.
Further inquiry revealed the existence of a WhatsApp group reportedly used to coordinate drug transactions. The group is said to include several prominent individuals and children of noted businesspersons. Police are now probing the full extent of the network.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to trace other members involved and dismantle the supply chain. Law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to curbing drug abuse and urged the public to report suspicious activities.
