Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has concluded the hearing on petitions challenging the election of the late Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath. The petitions, filed by Congress leaders Azharuddin and Naveen Yadav, alleged that Gopinath submitted false information in his election affidavit during the 2023 nomination process.

While the case was still under judicial consideration, Gopinath passed away due to health complications. His legal counsel informed the court of his demise, prompting the bench to officially conclude the proceedings on the election petitions.

Gopinath Passed Away While Undergoing Treatment

Maganti Gopinath died at 5 a.m. on June 8 after being hospitalized following a cardiac arrest on Thursday. He was undergoing treatment on a ventilator at AIG Hospital for three days before passing away.

Gopinath was a three-time MLA from Jubilee Hills, winning elections in 2014, 2018, and 2023. He began his political career with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and later joined the TRS (now BRS) in 2018. Prior to his political journey, he was active in the Telugu film industry as a producer.

He entered politics in 1983 with the TDP and served as the president of Telugu Yuvata from 1985 to 1992. He also held the position of HUDA Director in 1987 and 1988. Gopinath made his legislative debut in 2014 after winning from Jubilee Hills on a TDP ticket and later switched to the BRS due to evolving political dynamics.
