The Telangana High Court has delivered a significant blow to BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) MLAs who recently joined the Congress party. The court issued crucial orders regarding their disqualification. It directed the Assembly Secretary to place the disqualification petitions before the Speaker and specified that a decision must be made within four weeks. The High Court instructed the Secretary of the Speaker’s office to comply with this order. Should the Speaker fail to make a decision within the stipulated time, the court indicated it would initiate suo moto proceedings on the case.
Petitions were filed in the High Court by BJP and BRS leaders seeking disqualification of the MLAs who defected from their parties. The court reviewed petitions from BRS MLAs Padi Kaushik Reddy and Vivekananda Goud, and suggested that a decision on these petitions be taken within four weeks. During the hearings, the petitioners argued that the Speaker was ignoring Supreme Court directives on the matter.
Additionally, petitions were filed requesting disqualification orders against leaders Kadiam Srihari, and Tellam Venkatrao, while BJP Legislature Party leader and Nirmal MLA Maheshwar Reddy sought disqualification of Danan Nagender. The High Court has directed the Speaker’s office to make a decision within four weeks and has also indicated that it will take suo moto action if the deadline is not met.
