Telangana Jagruthi chief Kavitha has moved a step closer to launching a new political outfit, naming it “Telangana Praja Jagruthi.” She applied for the party’s registration with the Election Commission of India on January 23. The development has recently come to light, indicating her intent to formally enter active electoral politics with a new platform.
Seeking to expedite the process, Kavitha approached the Delhi High Court, requesting directions to the Election Commission to take an early decision on the party name under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The plea highlights concerns over delays in the registration process and urges timely clearance.
During a hearing on February 27, the Election Commission’s counsel informed the court that the application contained several deficiencies and that a communication had already been sent to Kavitha on February 23. However, her counsel was unable to attend the hearing due to hospitalization, leading the court to adjourn the matter to March 19. The petition is now scheduled for further hearing, where the issue is expected to be taken up again.
