In a major political development, West Bengal Governor C.V. Anand Bose resigned from his post weeks before the state assembly elections. On Thursday evening in Delhi, Bose submitted his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu. Having served as Governor for nearly two and a half years, he stated that he had “spent sufficient time in office” to make this decision, though he did not disclose the underlying reasons behind his resignation.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed deep shock over the resignation. Speaking on social media platform X, she said she was unaware of the reasons behind the decision but suggested that Bose may have faced pressure from the Union Home Minister for political purposes ahead of the elections.
Following Bose’s resignation, the central government appointed R.N. Ravi, the current Governor of Tamil Nadu, as the new Governor of West Bengal. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly informed Chief Minister Banerjee about the transfer over a phone call.
Mamata Banerjee criticized the central government for making the appointment without consulting the state administration, calling it “contrary to the spirit of federalism.” She emphasized that unilateral decisions affecting state governance undermine democratic norms and state autonomy.
