Fuel Crisis Hits Telugu States, Tollywood Shootings Disrupted

Severe fuel supply disruptions across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have led to widespread panic, with diesel scarcity impacting multiple sectors, including the Telugu film industry, where several Tollywood shootings were halted on Monday due to lack of fuel required to run generators for lights, cameras and cooling equipment.

Fuel shortages triggered long queues at petrol stations, with several outlets displaying “no stock” boards since Sunday night across Hyderabad, Hanumakonda, Khammam, Karimnagar and other districts. At functioning stations, heavy rush was reported, while some dealers imposed rationing systems and purchase limits amid rising demand.

Petrol bunks have alleged irregular and delayed supplies from oil marketing companies despite advance payments, claiming that rumours of an impending price hike led to panic buying and artificial scarcity. They also reported that some units resorted to black-market procurement of diesel to keep film shoots and operations running.

The state government, however, dismissed claims of an actual fuel shortage, stating that the situation is temporary and driven by excessive demand, inter-state spillover effects from Andhra Pradesh, and rumour-based panic buying. Officials reiterated that adequate stocks are available and supply chain issues are being addressed.

Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said the government had taken up the issue with oil marketing companies and directed immediate clearance of pending supply indents, assuring that normal fuel availability would be restored by Tuesday. He also warned of strict action against hoarding and any attempt to create artificial scarcity in the market.
