Nellore: Former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy has been booked in a fresh case involving unauthorized toll collections near Krishnapatnam Port. The case, registered at Muthukur Police Station, accuses him of setting up an illegal toll gate and collecting money without permission. Currently under judicial custody in connection with previous cases, Kakani was produced before the court on a PT warrant, which extended his remand until July 3.

In a parallel development, Kakani has also been named in a major illegal quartz mining case filed at Podalakur Police Station. He is one of eight individuals accused of siphoning off quartz worth ₹250 crore. Officials allege the former minister misused his position to facilitate the operation, prompting the Mining Department to initiate legal proceedings. He has been listed as Accused No. 4 in the FIR.

The complaint, lodged by Mining Deputy Director Balaji Naik, claims that Kakani and his associates used expired mining leases and unauthorized blasting techniques to extract and transport over 61,000 metric tonnes of quartz. The case has also named P. Shyam Prasad Reddy (A1), Vakati Sreenivasulu Reddy (A2), and Vakati Shiva Reddy (A3) among others.

Following inspections by officials from the Mines and Geology Department, show-cause notices amounting to Rs 7.56 crore were issued for seigniorage fees and penalties. The enforcement action stems from earlier complaints raised by Sullurpet MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, who alleged midnight excavations and unauthorized use of machinery at the site.
