A major political development unfolded in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday as police arrested former minister Ambati Rambabu over allegations of making obscene and provocative remarks against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The comments, reportedly made during a dispute over flex banners in Guntur, triggered widespread outrage across the state. TDP, Jana Sena and BJP alliance workers strongly condemned the remarks, with TDP cadres launching statewide protests and laying siege to Rambabu’s residence in Navabharat Nagar, Guntur.
Tensions prevailed for nearly six hours after protesters pelted stones at the former minister’s house and vandalised vehicles in the area. Women also joined the agitation in large numbers, expressing their protest with slippers and brooms. As the situation escalated, police intervened, dispersed the demonstrators and arrested Ambati Rambabu under heavy security, later shifting him to Nallapadu Police Station. Following the arrest, a high alert was declared in Guntur, with tight security arrangements put in place to prevent any untoward incidents.

Police confirmed that two FIRs have been registered against Ambati Rambabu — one for allegedly obstructing on-duty police personnel and pushing a sub-inspector, and another for making provocative remarks against the Chief Minister and acting in a manner said to disturb public order. He is scheduled to undergo a medical examination at Guntur Government Hospital before being produced before a magistrate. Meanwhile, Rambabu’s wife Vijayalakshmi approached the High Court, filing an urgent house motion petition and levelling allegations against the police.
