Bengaluru: Former JDS MP Prajwal Revanna has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Special Court for Public Representatives in a case involving repeated sexual assault on a domestic worker. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 11 lakh, directing that Rs 11.25 lakh be paid as compensation to the victim.
Revanna was transferred to Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, where he began serving his sentence as prisoner number 15528. He will work eight hours daily in tasks such as bakery, gardening, or farming, earning Rs 524 per month. Revanna, who reportedly broke down in court during sentencing, has approached the High Court seeking acquittal and claimed political harassment.
With Prajwal Revanna in jail, there is a growing demand for harsh punishment for those who distributed the pen drive linked to the case.

The case originated from a 2021 complaint by a 48-year-old woman employed at Revanna’s farmhouse in Hassan district, alleging repeated sexual assaults, threats, and video recordings of the incidents. Arrested in May 2024, Revanna was charged based on 123 pieces of evidence and testimony from 23 witnesses. The court delivered the verdict after a 14-month trial. Three other cases against Revanna are still under trial.
