Bengaluru: Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna has been convicted in a r*pe case by the Special Court for Public Representatives. The court is set to announce his sentence on August 2, 2025. Revanna faces four separate criminal cases involving allegations of rape, sexual harassment, and criminal intimidation. The Karnataka government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the cases.
The conviction relates to the rape of a domestic worker, while investigations in the remaining three cases are ongoing. Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, over 2,000 explicit video clips allegedly recorded by Revanna surfaced in Hassan and surrounding regions. Police claim the videos show multiple women being coerced and sexually assaulted.
One victim alleged that Revanna raped her twice in 2021, once at a farmhouse in Hassan and later at his Bengaluru residence, both incidents allegedly recorded by him. She further accused Revanna’s parents of attempting to destroy evidence and kidnap her, leading to their arrest. His brother, MLC Suraj Revanna, also faces separate sexual harassment allegations.
Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and son of former Karnataka Minister H.D. Revanna, entered politics in 2019 as JD(S) State General Secretary and won the Lok Sabha election from Hassan, becoming one of the youngest MPs in India. However, his political career took a major hit after these allegations surfaced, resulting in his suspension from the party. The focus now shifts to the court’s sentencing and verdicts in the other pending cases.
