Guntur: A fire erupted during the Ganesh Chaturthi idol immersion procession at Koritipadu in Guntur when fireworks exploded near a super specialty hospital. Thick smoke and flames caused three people to lose consciousness; they are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Preliminary investigations suggest that firecrackers may have fallen onto Diwali fireworks stored in the hospital cellar, where a Ganesh idol had been installed, triggering the blaze.
The fire spread to a hospital generator, which was completely destroyed. Prompt action by the fire department helped contain the fire and prevented a major disaster, providing relief to the local community. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause and ensure safety during future celebrations.
