The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken action against renowned filmmaker Shankar, attaching assets worth Rs 10.11 crore in connection with a copyright violation case related to the 2010 film Robo (Enthiran). The case stems from allegations made by Tamil writer Aaroor Tamilnadan, who claimed that the film’s storyline was copied from his book Jiguba. The ED cited a violation of Section 63 of the Copyright Act, 1957.
Legal Proceedings and ED Investigation
In 2011, Aaroor Tamilnadan filed a petition in the Egmore court, alleging that Shankar had used the story from Jiguba without authorization. He urged the court to take action against the director for copyright infringement. During the investigation, the Egmore court found that Shankar had received a remuneration of Rs 11.5 crore for Robo.
Following the court’s findings, the ED moved to attach Shankar’s assets. The director has not yet issued a statement regarding the development. Meanwhile, the ED revealed that Robo had collected Rs 290 crore worldwide.
