In a significant operation, Andhra Pradesh police encountered a dramatic situation involving ganja smugglers in Nellore district. During a routine midnight inspection on the highway at Venkatachalam, police officers requested a vehicle traveling from Nellore to Chennai to stop. However, the smugglers accelerated and fled the scene.
During the chase, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) G. Srinivasa Rao attempted to block the vehicle but was struck by the fleeing vehicle. As a result, DSP Rao sustained minor injuries to his head and hands.
Police Pursue and Apprehend Suspect
The police maintained their pursuit, following the smugglers with another vehicle. Alerts were sent to police stations along the route, prompting Atmakur Circle Inspector Gangadhar to join the operation. The pursuit continued until 4:30 AM, culminating in the apprehension of one suspect near Konasamudram. Two other suspects managed to escape. The detained individual has been transported to Nellore for further investigation.
Authorities are yet to determine the quantity of ganja involved. Preliminary investigations indicate that the ganja was being transported from Visakhapatnam to Chennai via Nellore.
