In a recent press conference, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan made explosive allegations against the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), claiming that the party has defiled hundreds of temples during its governance. Kalyan asserted that the traditional worship practices at Tirumala have been altered and accused YSRCP leaders of selling tickets under the guise of the Shree Vani Trust. He emphasized the importance of preserving the sentiments of devotees across all faiths, expressing concern over the deteriorating quality of prasadam (offerings). He called for a white paper on the operations of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and voiced his distress over the extent of corruption, including the alleged shipment of tainted laddus to Ayodhya.
Pawan Kalyan further condemned the YSRCP for politicizing religious matters, stating that he would only take to the streets if the idol of the deity at Ramateertham were to be vandalized. He criticized the passive observation of violence, insisting that no one has the right to undermine dharma. Describing the YSRCP as a party accustomed to wrongdoing, he urged for an end to such practices.
Addressing the potential public outcry if similar actions were taken against churches or mosques, Pawan Kalyan questioned whether Hindu sentiments are not afforded the same respect. He argued that Sanatana Dharma is a collective belief that encompasses all faiths and demanded discussions on this matter in the Cabinet and Assembly. He called upon the Chief Minister to decide whether to initiate a CBI investigation. Kalyan also criticized the silence of Hindu officials and board members regarding the alleged corruption in offerings, stating that TTD employees have committed a serious offense by remaining silent. He concluded by stating that he has undertaken a penance for atonement.
