New Delhi:  The Delhi High Court has issued crucial directives in the ongoing TV9 logo dispute. TV9 founder Ravi Prakash approached the court against its parent company, Associated Broadcasting Company Limited (ABCL), alleging a violation of contractual terms. He filed a case seeking his rightful claims from ABCL, including payments and ownership rights over the TV9 logo.

In his petition, Ravi Prakash stated that ABCL must pay him 4% of its revenue for using the TV9 logo, as per the agreement. He also urged the court to transfer the logo’s copyright to his name, arguing that ABCL had no rights to use it after 2019. Responding to the petition, the Delhi High Court issued notices to ABCL and directed orders regarding payments amounting to Rs 168 crore related to the logo’s usage. The court also included the possibility of transferring TV9 logo rights to Ravi Prakash in its directives.

The court has ordered ABCL to provide a clarification on the matter within four weeks. Ravi Prakash, who played a crucial role in TV9’s growth, had launched the channel on February 1, 2004, as the first 24-hour news network in the Telugu states. He served as its director and CEO since its inception, contributing significantly to its development.

The TV9 logo was registered under copyright protection in 2009, with Ravi Prakash listed as its author. Given his role in strengthening the channel’s brand identity, he argues that ABCL is liable to compensate him for the logo’s continued usage. With these legal claims in consideration, the Delhi High Court has now directed ABCL to submit a detailed explanation on logo ownership and financial obligations within four weeks.
