New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed petitions seeking the public disclosure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational qualifications, bringing an end to a long-running controversy. The court also set aside earlier orders from the Central Information Commission (CIC) that had directed Delhi University to release details of PM Modi’s BA degree.
Generally, the Sanghi ecosystem promotes family-based jobs, undermining education. Modi’s degree controversy highlights that in the 21st century, a university degree serves as a key identity, earning respect in both domestic and international forums. pic.twitter.com/TyteX1z9QX

The matter traces back to a 2016 RTI application requesting details of all students who graduated from Delhi University in 1978, the year PM Modi claimed to have completed his BA in his election affidavit. The CIC had ruled that the information should be made public. Delhi University challenged the orders, arguing that student records are personal and confidential, and disclosing them purely out of curiosity would violate the RTI Act.

Justice Sachin Datta ruled that details of PM Modi’s degree fall under “personal information” and do not need to be disclosed. The court clarified that only information of public interest is required to be shared, while personal educational qualifications are not mandatory for disclosure unless legally required for office or official duties. This verdict effectively concludes the debate over PM Modi’s degree.
