A tragic stampede occurred at Baba Sidheshwar Nath Temple in Mukhdampur, Jehanabad district, Bihar, on Monday morning, resulting in the deaths of seven devotees and injuring 50 others. The incident happened as a large crowd gathered at the temple, leading to chaos.
Upon receiving information about the stampede, police and district officials rushed to the scene and intensified rescue operations to aid the devotees. Among the deceased, six were women.
Jehanabad District Collector Alankrita Pandey visited the Siddhnath temple and instructed authorities to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured. She confirmed that the situation at the temple is now under control and that the stampede was triggered by the overwhelming number of devotees.
“We are questioning the family members of the deceased and working to identify the victims,” Pandey stated. However, many eyewitnesses claimed that the stampede was caused by a lathicharge by temple staff as they tried to control the crowd climbing the hill to reach the temple.
