David Warner has been appointed as the captain of Karachi Kings for the 2025 season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the franchise announced on Monday. Warner, who was not picked in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, will now participate in PSL, set to begin on April 11.
The franchise highlighted Warner’s leadership credentials, stating that his vast experience as a World Cup-winning veteran and a star T20 opener makes him an ideal choice. Karachi Kings also expressed gratitude to former captain Shan Masood for his contributions, acknowledging his role in strengthening the team’s foundation.
Karachi Kings won their first PSL title in 2020 and reached the playoffs in 2021. However, they have failed to progress beyond the league stage in the past three seasons. With Warner at the helm, the franchise hopes to turn its fortunes around and compete for another championship.
Karachi Kings will begin their PSL 2025 campaign against Multan Sultans on April 12 at their home ground in Karachi.
