Hyderabad: Senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and former Member of Parliament, Comrade Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, passed away in Hyderabad today after a period of illness. He had been receiving treatment in a local hospital.
Early Life and Education
Born on March 25, 1942, in Kondravupalli village of Mahbubnagar district, Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy was the son of Venkatramireddy, a freedom fighter who also participated in the Telangana armed struggle. Sudhakar Reddy completed his BA from Osmania College, Kurnool, and later earned an LLB from Osmania University. He married Vijayalakshmi in 1974, and the couple had two sons.
Political Career
Reddy represented the CPI and was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Nalgonda constituency in 1998 and 2004. He served the party actively for several decades and held the position of National General Secretary from 2012 to 2019. Between 1998 and 1999, he was a member of the sub-committee on drug price control under the Human Resources Development Committee. He also contributed in advisory roles to various government departments, including the Finance Ministry.
Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy is remembered as a dedicated leader who played a significant role in both the party and public service.
