CP Radhakrishnan, contesting on behalf of the NDA alliance, has been elected Vice President of India in the 2025 election. He defeated UPA candidate Justice Sudarshan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes, securing victory on first-preference votes. Radhakrishnan received 452 votes, while Justice Reddy garnered 300 votes. Fifteen votes were invalid. Out of 781 MPs, 767 participated in the voting. Members of the BRS, BJD, and Akali Dal largely abstained. Voting was held in the new Parliament building from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and counting began at 6 p.m.

Radhakrishnan began his political career as a grassroots worker, rising to serve as an MP, Governor of multiple states, and now Vice President. Born in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, he started at the age of 16 as a volunteer with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He has played a key role in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was elected twice as MP from the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency.
He has served as Governor in several states: Jharkhand (February 2023 to July 2024), Telangana (March 2024 to July 2024), and Maharashtra (July 2024 to present). His election as Vice President represents the culmination of a long political career spanning grassroots activism, parliamentary representation, and gubernatorial responsibilities.
