Hyderabad: In a significant legal development, the Nampally Court on Saturday directed police to register a criminal case against Telangana Minister Konda Surekha in connection with a defamation suit filed by BRS Working President and former Minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR). The court ordered that a notice be served to Surekha by August 21, 2025.
The directive comes after the court reviewed witness statements and documents, concluding there was a prima facie case against Surekha. KTR’s counsel argued that the minister made unfounded allegations involving phone tapping, drug links, and actress Samantha’s divorce. The court accepted these arguments, dismissing objections raised by Surekha’s legal team, including claims of insufficient information and jurisdictional issues.
The defamation suit, filed under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNS), has now led to a criminal investigation order. The court stated that the allegations were baseless and upheld KTR’s plea for legal action.
