Congress has secured major victories in the Nizamabad and Mahbubnagar municipal corporations. In Nizamabad, the party, in alliance with MIM, claimed the mayoral post, electing Umarani as Mayor and Salma Tahseen as Deputy Mayor. In Mahbubnagar, Congress leader Gummal Mamatha was elected Mayor following the corporators’ oath-taking ceremony.
In Nizamabad, Congress won 17 seats while MIM secured 14. With support from two ex-officio members and a BRS candidate, Congress’s strength increased to 34. The Mayor’s post, reserved for women, saw a contest between Umarani and Lalitha, with Congress eventually choosing Umarani. Salma Tahseen, who won from MIM’s 54th division, was elected Deputy Mayor.
The BJP won 28 seats in Nizamabad. However, the alliance between Congress and MIM prevented the party from claiming the Mayor’s post despite its strong showing.
