New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has clarified his recent remarks praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handling of Operation Sindhur, amid criticism from within his party. Tharoor had commended Modi’s leadership and called his approach “exemplary” following the operation’s success against Pakistan.
Addressing the backlash, Tharoor emphasized that his praise was personal and not reflective of the Congress party’s official position. “The India-Pakistan conflict must be viewed from a special perspective. I praised PM Modi as a citizen of the country, and I take pride in that. This is strictly my personal opinion,” he stated.

Tharoor highlighted that Operation Sindhur sent a clear message to Pakistan and dismissed Pakistan’s claims of success as irrelevant. “We witnessed how Pakistan’s attacks were effectively repelled. There is no doubt about it. Modi is fulfilling his duties as Prime Minister during this critical time,” he added.
He also praised Modi’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and actions against anti-national elements, noting that the Prime Minister is focused on the nation’s priorities. Tharoor concluded by expressing hope that Modi would continue to demonstrate similar leadership in the future.
