Jammu and Kashmir witnessed severe devastation following a sudden cloudburst in Chosity, leaving residents with minimal time to take precautionary measures. The flash floods have caused significant casualties, with authorities reporting 46 bodies recovered so far. Officials warned that more people could still be trapped under debris, and the death toll is expected to rise.
Large-scale rescue operations are underway, involving hundreds of NDRF, SDRF personnel, police, army, and local volunteers. The efforts are being closely monitored by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. So far, 160 people have been rescued, 38 of whom remain in critical condition. The base point for the renowned Machail Mata temple pilgrimage in Kishtwar district was located in the affected area, where devotees normally park their vehicles before proceeding on foot. Authorities have announced an immediate suspension of the pilgrimage due to the disaster.
