New Delhi: The Central Government has officially declared April 14, the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, as a public holiday. All central government offices and industrial establishments across the country will remain closed on this day.
In a memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the decision was attributed to Dr. Ambedkar’s lasting contributions to the nation. The notification directs that from April 14, 2025, the holiday will be observed nationwide.

Announcing the decision on social media, Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat stated, “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, laid the foundation for social equality. Declaring his birth anniversary as a public holiday is a tribute to his legacy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision reflects the sentiments of the people.”
