New Delhi: The Central Government has announced a significant price reduction on 35 essential medicines, offering relief to patients suffering from chronic illnesses. The decision, aimed at improving affordability, covers treatments for heart diseases, diabetes, body pain, and mental health disorders.
According to the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the revised prices include Rs 13 for Aceclofenac-Paracetamol-Trypsin Chymotrypsin tablets from Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Rs 15 for Cadila Pharmaceuticals’ variant, and Rs 25.6 for Atorvastatin 40 mg + Clopidogrel 75 mg tablets, commonly used by cardiac patients. Pediatric oral suspensions, Vitamin D drops, and Diclofenac injections have also been capped, with Diclofenac injections priced at Rs 31.
Medical stores are required to prominently display the new price list. The government has warned of strict action and penalties under the Drug Price Control Act for overpricing. Pharmaceutical companies must update prices in the Integrated Pharmaceutical Database Management System and report to the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) and state drug controllers. The revised price list, available on the NPPA website, replaces previous orders and is expected to reduce the financial burden on long-term patients.
