The decision in the case involving Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat remains pending as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has yet to deliver its verdict. Vinesh, who was disqualified before competing for a gold medal in the Paris Olympics 2024, had appealed to CAS to review the decision.

During the proceedings, CAS presented three specific questions to Vinesh, seeking her responses via email. The questions were:

“Are you aware of the rule requiring a weight check the following day?”
“Would the Cuban wrestler agree to share the silver medal with you?”
“Do you prefer the appeal decision to be announced publicly or privately, and in what manner should the verdict be revealed?”

The final ruling will be based on Vinesh’s answers to these questions.

Vinesh Phogat had delivered a commendable performance representing India at the Paris Olympics. However, she was disqualified from the gold medal match after being found 100 grams over the weight limit. Despite her efforts to reduce the excess weight, she was unable to do so in time, leading to her disqualification.

India secured a total of six medals at the Paris Olympics 2024, including five bronze and one silver. Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal in javelin throw, while the Indian hockey team clinched a bronze. Three additional bronze medals came from shooting events, and Aman Sehrawat secured a bronze in wrestling. If Vinesh’s appeal is successful, India’s medal tally will increase to seven. The final decision from CAS is eagerly awaited by Vinesh and her supporters.
