Hyderabad: Amid escalating allegations between the Congress government and the BRS over the Kaleshwaram project, the BRS has decided to approach the Supreme Court. The decision follows claims by the Congress government that the Kaleshwaram Barrage is non-functional.
During the recent state elections, some pillars at Medigadda, part of the Kaleshwaram project, reportedly collapsed. In response, a commission led by Justice Ghosh was appointed to investigate allegations of corruption by the BRS and the current non-functionality of the project. After an 18-month-long inquiry, the commission submitted its final report to the government. Ministers have echoed similar concerns, and the matter is expected to be discussed in upcoming assembly sessions.
On Friday, BRS Chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) convened a meeting of senior party leaders at his Erravalli farmhouse. Attendees included K.T. Rama Rao, Harish Rao, Boyinapalli Vinod Kumar, and Jagadish Reddy. The meeting focused on countering the government’s negative publicity regarding the project, pressuring the administration to revive the stalled project, and discussing a potential approach to the Supreme Court.
KCR advised consulting legal experts before moving the matter to the apex court and outlined key points for the party’s strategy. Leaders also reviewed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s Independence Day remarks alleging structural failures in the project and discussed preparations for assembly deliberations on the Kaleshwaram commission report.
The meeting further addressed strategies to counter opposition claims of a BRS-BJP merger, public outreach initiatives, and preparations for the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election and local body elections. KCR instructed party working president K.T. Rama Rao to take the necessary decisions for the by-election, and leaders decided to convene another meeting soon to finalize the action plan.
